OAC Summer Program 2013 Great Success! On Hiatus for 2014 and 2015, Will Return in 2016.
After great success in 2013, OAC Summer Program is on hiatus for 2014 and 2015, and will return for an exciting new season in 2016.

Summer Program Enrollment Procedures and Policies

Program Dates and Deadlines

The Opera Academy of California Summer Program will be held from June 12, 2013 through July 28, 2013 in San Francisco. 
All deadlines are final.

Application materials are due one week prior to audition date for those auditioning live.

Application materials are due by March 1st, 2013 for those auditioning via recording or online link. 

You may reserve a place at a live audition any time after November 1, 2012.

Applicants will be notified of acceptance between March 15th-31st, 2013.  If you need to hear sooner, please contact [email protected].

Tuition deadlines: 
April 10th, 2013 - First Payment
May 1st, 2013 - Final Payment


Scholarships are awarded to individuals only after they have completed their entire audition process.  If you are applying for Work-Study Scholarship, it is in your best interest to get all your materials to us as soon as possible.

  • A hard copy of your complete application form with your audition preference (see Audition page). If you are auditioning via your site, include your URL.  If you are auditioning in person, indicate your desired city, date and time.  If you will be sending a DVD, we prefer that you include it in your packet.  Click here for Application Form.
  • Include a Resume that describes singing experience, previous opera roles and scenes, educational background, opera training and related programs and vocal teachers.
  • If applicable, Two Letters of Recommendation.  These are required only if you are NOT currently enrolled in a vocal program at a college or conservatory.  One should be from your current voice teacher and the other from a professional musician familiar with your work.
  • A recent professional photo.
  • If applicable, include a Work-Study Scholarship Letter with your Application Packet (see below).
  • Enclose a check drawn on a US Bank to cover the $40 USD non-refundable Application Processing Fee.

Work-Study Scholarships

Work-Study Scholarships are available to offset tuition expenses for up to $1000.  Work hours are calculated based on a market rate equivalent of $15 per hour.  Work is related to the administration and functioning of the OAC Summer Program.

If you are interested in a Work-Study Scholarship, please include a letter with your Application Packet.  The Work-Study Scholarship Letter must state your intent to apply and describe your qualifications and skills in the areas of office management, costume and make-up, box-office/money handling, marketing, publicity, public relations and promotion, stage management or backstage experience.

Scholarships are awarded only after the entire audition process is complete for each applicant.  If you are applying for Work-Study Scholarship, it is in your best interest to get all your materials to us as soon as possible.



Work-Study Scholarship recipients are encouraged to consider extending their stay in San Francisco until July 30, as we have many hours of Work-Study available during strike and clean-up.

Tuition is to be paid by check in US Dollars (USD).

Living Arrangements

OAC Students are responsible for making and financing their own travel to and from San Francisco, as well as organizing and paying for their own living, eating and transportation arrangements. OAC does have an arrangement with a San Francisco Institute of Art dorm for our participants to stay in shared rooms with other OAC participants for $260/week during the program dates.  Please email [email protected] for more information and to reserve a spot. 


The Opera Academy of California Summer Program has a Facebook page where students can discuss relevant issues and work out some of these living arrangements as well.  OAC is not responsible for any arrangements made using our Facebook page.

OAC has also accumulated a list of local San Francisco residence hotels which will be provided to you upon request.  Please e-mail us at [email protected] for more information.

Policies

  • Deadlines     All deadlines are final.
  • Application Fee     The Application Fee of $40 is non-refundable.
  • Tuition     Requests for refunds must be received before midnight on May 1st, 2013  Pacific Time.  Up to 80% of the paid tuition deposits may be refundable.
  • Late Payments     No late payments or payment plans can be accepted.
  • Returned Payments     There will be a $50 charge for all returned checks or dishonored payments.
  • Losses     The OAC Summer Program assumes no financial responsibility for losses arising due to missed deadlines or the inability of students to participate in any of the regularly scheduled programs whether such losses are through the fault of the student or not.
  • Musical Preparation     All participants in the OAC Summer Program agree to memorize all their music before June 12th so that rehearsals can begin immediately.
  • Acceptance     By submission of an application to the OAC Summer Program, students agree to abide by all policies of the organization.  All decisions of the Artistic Director are final.  All participants will sign an acceptance form describing OAC policies.
  • Inclusion     The Opera Academy of California does not discriminate on the basis of race, religion, sexual orientation, gender identity or presentation, ethnic background or national origin.
  • Donations     OAC is a 501(c)3 organization under the rules of the IRS, and donations are tax deductible.  However, payments to the OAC Summer Program are not tax-deductible, but should be treated as tuition for the purposes of calculating your taxes.  Click the link below to donate.
