AUDITIONS
Emerging Singers Summer Program 2012
Audition Information
Candidates for admission to the summer program must audition.
Audition Repertoire:
• One opera aria by Bizet, Massenet, Poulenc or Chabrier (or an aria by a similar composer in French)
• One opera aria by Mozart in Italian
• One opera aria of your choice
There are three ways a candidate can audition: via DVD, via digital audio/video upload, or live at an in-person audition in major US cities.
Emerging singers are encouraged to audition by DVD or by making recently recorded audio-visual materials available on a website or page. This approach has become increasingly popular as it allows singers to audition when they are comfortable and where it is convenient, without requiring the expense and stress of travel. In addition, reviewers are better able to pay attention to each singer without losing focus due to a taxing audition schedule.
For DVD Auditions:
You may use recordings that meet the three-aria requirements (above) that were not done specifically for OAC, but all materials must be recent. Digital recordings should be imprinted on a standard formatted disc readable on computer and DVD Player. Check the box on your application form that says that you will be submitting by DVD and that it is included in your Application Packet or check the box that indicates that you will be sending a DVD later. This will help us to manage your materials. DVDs cannot be returned. We prefer that you mail your DVD with your application materials, but if necessary it can be mailed separately to:
Yefim Maizel | 5th Floor Stage Directors | The Metropolitan Opera, Lincoln Center | New York City, NY 10023
For Online Recorded Auditions:
You may use digital recordings that meet the three-aria requirements (above) that were not done specifically for OAC, but all materials must be recent. Check the box on your application form that says that you will be submitting by URL, and then provide the electronic address that will direct us to your material. Please include any passwords we may need if applicable.
For Live Auditions:
Live auditions will be held in major US cities throughout the Fall and Winter, including Boston, Chicago, Baltimore, Los Angeles, New York and San Francisco. Auditions will remain open until all positions are filled. If you audition at a live OAC event, a pianist will be provided, though you may bring your own if you prefer. The OAC artistic director may not be able to be physically present at all the auditions; in this case auditions will be video-taped by OAC staff.
Check the box on your application form that says that you will be performing in-person, and list your preferred location, date and time. Please bring an additional resume if you audition live. If you would like to reserve a place at a live audition before your Application Packet is ready, please send an e-mail to: auditionsfor2012@opera-academy.com
